I Need a Now {a poem}
I need a new next time,
one where instead of next
and instead of time
there is only now.
I need a now
exactly like this one --
sun streaming in,
kid playing the keyboard
in the next room,
a dog snoring,
a whole day, month, year
ahead like a scroll
we haven't walked
or written on yet.
I need just this,
to be sated, filled
by what is.
Let the only gaping
be the wide open spaces
of a fallow field,
an emptiness
the way the sky
is empty, making way
for flight.
